As of today, October 24, 2024, we’re thrilled to share that the foundation of The PHNX is almost finished! Walking through the site and seeing the rebar, the elevator pit, and the footings all set and ready for the next steps is surreal.

As I left the property yesterday (October 7, 2024), I couldn’t help but feel a rush of excitement. The footings are being dug as I type this—it’s the beginning of the end, and momentum is truly picking up! After so much time spent planning and preparing, we’re finally seeing tangible progress on the construction of The PHNX.

It’s hard to believe how far we’ve come in such a short time, and today marks a significant milestone in our journey. The sight of heavy machinery moving tons of dirt (yes, literally tons!) onto the site is a pretty exciting reminder that we’re one step closer to bringing our vision to life. We are very excited about the future that lies ahead.

After months of planning, anticipation, and preparation, Candace and I are thrilled to share that tomorrow we should finally begin to see major progress on the site. The DIRT is coming!

Over the past 12 years, our building was more than just bricks and mortar. It was a place where friendships were forged, dreams were nurtured, and countless stories were written. From the laughter that echoed through the walls to the quiet moments of reflection, every corner of the building held a special significance for someone.

As we approach the end of 2023, I still find myself very grateful. Even as Candace B. Rape and I stood together watching the fire actively destroy both the building and business we had poured our lives into, my God's honest perspective was "It is what it is."

It was 8 months ago today on May 7th 2023 that our building burned down. To the minute, exactly 8 months ago I was standing outside the destruction along with everyone while Chris Schmohl, Brandon Jones, and the rest of the incredible Trussville Fire Department successfully extinguished the blaze before it became fully involved.

I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and that a healthy perspective is all you need. There is no good news or bad news, just news - we decide how to interpret it.

Demo starts Monday! It's been a long time coming. CrossFit Trussville has been here in Trussville since 2008, and these last 10 months have felt longer than the last 16 years.

I've had incredible peace about everything. Was I tired? Beat down? Overwhelmed? Exhausted? Oh yes indeed, but honestly with genuine reflection, I can say that my head has been level throughout working hard to maintain a perspective beyond myself. I owe a lot of that to the perspective God's allowed me to develop over the course of my life with challenges He's thrown at me, and I owe a healthy share of resilience to the community of support that we have around us.

We've torn down an entire gym 52 times, set up for an entire church service 52 times, moving the equivalent of 4,160 rubber mats, 3,744 Dumbbells and Kettlebells, 1248 boxes, rolled 367,120 pounds of plates, and 832 Rowers, Echo Bikes, and Ski-Ergs (but who's counting?)
